Biography

Louise Ysabel D.G. Dequilla was born on October 1994 in Manila. She spent her pre-school years in the Philippines until the family migrated to the United States when she was 6 years old.

At 6 1/2 yrs. old, Louise was accepted and accelerated to enter the Second grade, skipping First grade, thanks to her advanced admission test score results. She spent her early school years in Corona, Ca, but had to spend her Fourth grade in Florida when the family moved there and came back to California again to finish her middle school years in Lake Elsinore. Inspite of her constantly moving around, her Elementary and Middle School years were spent with remarkable results, garnering academic excellence awards in every quarter. She was recognized by both California and Florida School Districts for advanced placement achievement in both standardized testings.

Currently, Louise is in her Junior year of High School at Temescal Canyon. She completed most of the AP classes available in her year with the highest honors possible. She is a 2-year member of the Varsity Dance Team and is the co-Captain for the Varsity Tennis Team. Ever since she joined the Varsity Team back in her Freshman year, she has been playing as number one singles and received the MVP award each year along with the All-League Selection. Unknown to many, Louise also won 4th runner up award in the Miss Teen San Bernardino Pageant of 2008. It was quite a feat for her winning out of 80 candidates in her division. Her win landed her a spot in the National Level competition in Florida. Eventually, she qualified for acting/modeling audition with John Casablancas Acting and Modeling Career Center in which she completed on that same year.

Louise was first introduced to Tennis in late 2004 when she was 10 yrs. old. It was her late Uncle Jhune De Guzman, who encouraged her to join him in a group clinic once a week with Coach Corey Daniels at a local community park in Hemet. Louise and her uncle had so much fun learning the game together until he was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 and passed away that same year. That experience was really tough for Louise at her young age and caused her to stop playing for a while. When the family moved to Lake Elsinore in 2006, Bill Behrens was just starting with his Tennis instruction facility at that time. Louise became one of his first students and stayed with him until now.

Her five years of tennis training with Bill helped improve her game by leaps and bounds. Bill's personal experience as an Ex-Touring ATP Pro, and a former Top-Ranked Junior in SoCal and National, as well as his experience as a top UCLA Men's College Tennis player, helped Louise in understanding the complex mechanics of the game. She was able to execute the advanced training routines that Bill has incorporated in her training so as with the current techniques that evolved in the professional tennis arena. Of course, this is not going to happen without Louise's natural ability to quickly learn and absorb each lesson along with her usual deeper commitment to excel in all her endeavors.

Inspite of being an only child, Louise was brought up with a greater sense of good values and responsibility. She was never the poster child of an "only child" image. As her parents, we can't thank God enough for our greatest blessing in Louise. She is a child that every parent would love to have.

Many of our acquaintances would wonder how else can Louise manage all her current activities. Indeed, everyday is always a busy day for her, the demands of academics being so rigid that it would always take most of her day's (night) time, while the rest is dedicated to her daily tennis drills on the nearby court.

Most of her weekends are either spent on USTA tournaments all over Southern California or in practice matches with her other tennis friends. As a family, we made a commitment to support her with her tennis and to optimize the opportunities of what it can bring to her as her own person someday. Despite this busy schedule, we always find time to balance our activities and spend quality family time together either at home or on the road.

Louise's academic career interest is with Journalism and Psychology. Her natural abilities in literary writing and her quick-wit common sense are some of the quality attributes that will help her achieve this "other" passion someday. As her parents, providing her the best education is our priority, but if she intends to pursue her tennis beyond her College, then our commitment of support will always go with her decision.

Currently, Louise is ranked 48th in USTA/SCTA 16U Singles and highest ranked 23rd in 16U Doubles. As a player, one of Louise's strengths is her serve, some of her doubles partners applaud her serving that leads them to easy put aways at the net. However, her groundstrokes are equally potent as well. She developed very sound fundamental tennis skills that are translated to her proper groundstroke stance (forehand/backhand), volleys, overhead, one-hand backhand slice, drop shots, approach shots that compliment a strong transition game. Bill did an excellent job in training Louise with her transition game and point construction techniques. Situational plays during her training enabled Louise to improve her court and game generalship. But most of all, her match play experience during actual competitive matches in USTA Junior tournaments earned her valuable learning lessons that she continually applies in her tennis game. She will start playing up in the 18U age division at the start of next year.
